Arkansas Valley Electric and Wave Rural Connect #StudentAthletesOfTheWeek are Van Buren Pointers, Camryn Schmidt, and Conner Myers.
Freshman Camryn Schmidt, the post for the Senior High Lady Pointers is creating a bright future for herself. She started her freshman season by moving up to play with the Senior High Lady Pointers.
When describing her mindset on the court, Camryn shared, “I try to give it my all every game, and as a result, I have seen a lot of growth this year.”
“This has been a big year for me. As I made the transition to play with the older girls, I felt a lot of weight on my shoulders, but our team has been really good, and the fans are great. I love playing for Van Buren.”
Senior Conner Myers, the center for the Senior High Pointers has attended Van Buren since kindergarten. Connor has great pride in his school and goals for his team to earn a state title.
Conner shared, “My goal since elementary school has been to be remembered in this school. This city is a big representation of how I play. Growing up, I watched the older guys playing and I always wanted to be like them. So now that I am here, I hope to be that same role model for the younger kids.”
“The energy is incredible, especially at home games. The crowd, the bench, the new renovations to our arena. It is so loud, it’s insane.”
Upon graduating high school, Connor plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University and major in Kinesiology.
