Wave Rural Connect is the choice for  Symmetrical Speed Gigabit Fiber Internet!

You may hear us talk about Gigabits a lot. But what does that mean? First, it’s important to know that whenever refers to Gigabits, we are referring to internet speed, not a data package with your cell phone plan. WAVE Rural Connect fiber internet service will never have data caps or data throttling – you may use as much as data as you wish on a monthly basis.

Internet speed is calculated on the amount of data processed per second – called Megabits per second, or Mbps. We will offer two different speed options: 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps. 1 Gigabit per second is equal to 1,000 Mbps per second.  With either speed option, you will be able to run multiple devices – such as cell phones, computers and laptops – simultaneously in your home or business without decreased download and upload speeds.  The table below gives you a speed comparison between what you may have now and what’s possible with FTTH.

Symmetrical service is what sets WAVE Rural Connect fiber internet apart from our competition.  We offer identical upload and download speeds – up to 1,000 Mbps (1 Gigabit) down and up!  Think of it as a two-way highway: On our network, cars can go maximum speeds in both directions!

Other networks in our area promise speed but don’t deliver.  Downloads are fast but their uploads are not!

 Why Upload Speed Is Key

  1. Fast upload speed is as important as download speed, especially for file backups or large file shares
  2. Fast uploads allow for uninterrupted file transfers and smoother screen sharing when videoconferencing
  3. Fast speeds mean better video chat and gaming experiences, without delays or buffering even with other apps or multiple devices in use at the same time.

Will Fiber be obsolete?

Building a fiber network takes several years. Is fiber technology going to be obsolete by then?

As the gold standard of transmission, fiber technology is here to stay. In addition to providing consistent “symmetrical” high speeds for both uploading and downloading, fiber is more reliable than other networks because it’s less susceptible to interference and damage from lightning or weather. By following the electric footprint of the cooperative, the fiber network also has an established installation and maintenance system in place, reinforcing its sustainability.

Most internet providers use fiber in their systems but use copper lines for the final connections to the home, resulting in slower speeds. WAVE Rural Connect believes 100% fiber network is the best, most sustainable communications choice.

Furthermore, fiber infrastructure is necessary to expand 5G networks. Fiber broadband technology works alongside 5G wireless technology to support it, unlike its predecessor, 4G – and the combination of 5G and fiber together can result in accelerated speeds on both sides.

Because of its superior reliability and affordability, fiber will continue to power the internet revolution for years into the future.
